Botox Cosmetic: A Guide to Commonly Treated Areas
By: Jennifer Ellis, FNP-C
Botox Cosmetic injections are one of, if not the most, popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments in the world. Botox works by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles, gradually resulting in a smoother, more youthful looking you over the course of the 2 weeks following your injections.
Botox can be used on several areas of the face and neck, including:
Forehead: Reducing the horizontal lines caused by raising the eyebrows. Often a subtle brow lift can be achieved if desired.
Glabella or frown between the brows: Smooths the vertical, angry lines, often called the “11s”.
Crows Feet: Minimizes wrinkles around the outer corners of the eyes, while not affecting your ability to smile.
Bunny Lines: Softens the “scrunch” on the sides of the nose.
Upper Lip: Addresses the vertical lines, often called “smoker’s lines”. A lip flip can also be performed for a subtle upward turn of the upper lip.
Chin: Diminishes chin dimpling and strain.
Jawline: Slimming of the jaw and reducing teeth clenching/grinding.
Neck: Improving the appearance of neck bands (Platysmal bands) and some slight neck firming may result in the proper candidates.
You can expect your Botox treatment to last 3 months on average, so some people will get more and some people will get less length to the treatment effects. In areas where we have to do less units, it will likely not last as long. When done correctly by an experienced injector you will look like a more youthful, refreshed version of yourself.
