Botox For Axillary Sweating

By: Jennifer Ellis, FNP-C

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, can be a frustrating and embarrassing condition. If you have tried every antiperspirant under the sun with no success, Botox may be right for you. Especially for dancers, models, and actors, this treatment is often especially appealing.

Botox works on the face by blocking the nerve signal for the injected muscles movement. In the underarm, or axilla, it works similarly by blocking the nerve signal that allows the sweat glands to produce sweat. Botox is FDA approved for hyperhidrosis to the underarms and typically 100 units total is injected, 50 units to each side in small injections to cover the entire axilla area.

A topical numbing cream will be applied before the treatment for your comfort. The procedure will take about 30 minutes to perform and the treatment will typically last between 3-9 months, as treatment longevity is very individual.

Cost: $1000 per 100-unit vial
